Kentucky Concrete Company History

The Company was founded in 1979 under the name Hardin County Ready Mix, Inc. by nine of the more prominent local builder/developers to insure a readily available source of concrete for their own use, as well as filling a gap in the market for timely deliveries of concrete. With steady growth over the next few years and a growing need for an easier access to the Elizabethtown market the assets of LaRue County Ready Mix was purchased in early 1984. The business was incorporated under the name of Lincoln Trail Ready Mix, Inc. and ran separate from Hardin County Ready Mix, Inc.

By 1987 the company had modernized its fleet and made significant improvements to both plants to service a growing customer base. In 1988 the company embarked on its biggest job to date, providing the concrete for the AP Technoglass plant in Elizabethtown . A new plant was purchased and set up on site to supply concrete for the job 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Upon completion of this job the plant was moved to Lincoln Trail Industrial Park and operated under the name Elizabethtown Concrete, owned by Hardin County Ready Mix, Inc.

Concurrently with moving the “AP” plant to its current location the Lincoln Trail Ready Mix, Inc. was merged into Hardin County Ready Mix, Inc. With a new modern plant within 6 miles of the Lincoln Trail Ready Mix plant that could efficiently service southern Hardin County and LaRue County the decision was made to turn Lincoln Trail Ready Mix into Lincoln Trail Concrete, and manufacture precast concrete products. Over the next few years the company continued to grow and develop its customer base while constantly upgrading its fleet of concrete trucks. All batch plants were computerized and updated with the latest concrete technology.

In 1994 the company purchased and erected a new concrete plant in the Elizabethtown Industrial Park to provide concrete for the Dana Manufacturing Plant. In 1997 Hardin County Ready Mix, Inc. purchased the assets of C & C Ready Mix, inc. in Bardstown, Kentucky. With Expanded operations outside of Hardin County a new name was chosen in 1998 to reflect the broader scope of operations, Kentucky Concrete, Inc. 1998 also marked the year that the company went from rear-discharge trucks to front discharge trucks to better serve our ever expanding customer base. In June of 2003 the assets of Dotson Concrete, Inc. in Shelbyville, Kentucky were purchased, and Kentucky Concrete moved into another new market.

Today, Kentucky Concrete, Inc. has 5 state and nationally certified plants and 38 front discharge trucks serving all of Hardin, LaRue, Nelson and Shelby counties as well as parts of Meade, Hart, Grayson, Bullitt, Spencer, Oldham, Jefferson, Henry, Anderson and Washington Counties.
